Yamaha started producing motorcycles in 1955. Today Yamaha Motor Corporation is the second largest producer of motorcycles. Yamaha Motor Corporation also produces many other motorized vehicles, such as ATV’s, boats, and snowmobiles. Yamaha produces sport / road motorcycles as well as cruisers in the United States. Yamaha’s top of the line road motorcycle is the Yamaha YZF-R1, and its smaller sibling, the Yamaha YZF-R6. Both the YZF-R1 and the YZF-R6 are inspired by MotoGP racing technology. Yamaha produces the world the MotoGP championship winning Yamaha YZF-M1 currently raced by Valentino Rossi. In 2005 Yamaha announced their new standalone brand, the “Star Motorcycles”, in the American market. Yamaha’s Star Motorcycle brand offers twenty four different cruiser motorcycles, to compete with Harley Davidson and Suzuki’s Boulevard line.
